Food and water bowls, litter box, litter, brush, toys, a bed, cat shampoo (if needed, you can also use deodorizing wipes) a carrier for car rides, I highly recommend a scratching post for indoor cats, treats, and anything else that you feel is neccasry.
When you get a new cat or kitten the smart thing to do is to keep your cat in a smaller room of the house for as long as it takes him or her to warm up to you and that new area. Little by little start opening up new parts of the house and give your new cat some time to get used to these new areas. Once he or she has adapted to it's new area, feel free to open up the entire house. This whole process can take a while. So make sure you have that kind of pacitence.
Find a small space in your house, such as an office or a guest room. Make sure that all of your valuable items are stored away. Make hiding places for your cat and have all the supplies that you need in that one room if possible.
I have a lot of experience in this category. With dogs, you need to let the dog smell the cat first. Take blankets from the cat's room and give them to your dog, so they can smell each other. Slowly introduce them. When introducing a cat to another cat, can be more challenging. Remember to give your OG cat a lot of love. let them see each other, make sure there are hiding places around the room just in case. Have them watch each other play. Soon they will realize that they are cool. Introduce them in short time intervals every day.
The best way to bond with your new cat is to play with them! Let your cat come to you. But once they do, definitely try to cuddle them and show them that you love them. Another way to bond is to give them treats, and food. Cats will bond with the person that is feeding them. It will make them think that that person is their mom.
If you are interested in having your cat be an outdoor\indoor cat then these tips will be very helpful! You need to keep your cat inside for a while. You need to make sure that they are happy with you and they need to feel safe. Once your cat is comfortable you can start to introduce them to your backyard. Then your cat should be set to roam. Make a designated eating schedule, if you would like them to be on schedule when they come back to the house. Make sure to always leave a water bowl outside, just in case.
