Cats are everywhere. They are roaming our streets. The biggest reason why so many cats are here is that when people get bored with their cats they just leave them on the side of the road. Most of the time those cats are not spayed or neutered. It is part of a cat's nature to mate and breed with other cats. So of course you can originally have 10 cats. Then those ten cats become 50 cats. The population just keeps on growing. My family and I have trapped 12 cats. 10 of which were female. One female cat can produce up to 1-8 kittens per litter on average. They have 2-3 litters a year. During a female cat's productive life they can have up to 100 kittens. My family and I have stopped up to 1000 kittens from being born. That is a lot of cats! Just by trapping 1 cat, you are making a big difference! When people think of feral cats they think of mean vicious cats that are hissing and growling at people. This is untrue. A feral cat isnʻt a breed or a species of cat, it is simply a behavioral characteristic. Cats that have grown up outside without a lot of human contacts are considered feral. They are terrified by the sight of humans and want nothing to do with them. If you find a feral cat the worst thing that you can do is make a mission to save them and rehabilitate them. First of all, it will take a very long time. Someday the cat gets tame. Though that 2 years that it took to tame them will have been the most traumatizing year of that cat's life. (Of course if you see a feral cat that is in desperate need of rehabilitation then of course you need to give the cat the care that it deserves. )Feral cats are happy in the wild. It is all that they have ever known. In this situation, it applies to the TNR program. Trap, neuter, release. All you have to do is trap the cat, then get it spayed\ neutered, Vaccinated, and ear-tipped. Then you can release the cat in itʻs original environment outside. This will keep the cat fulfilling his or her life where they are most happy, and no more kittens will be born. Many places can help you after you trap a cat. Bring them to spay neuter, and vaccinate the clinic, or bring them to a vet that is experienced with feral cats. There is also a big difference between a feral and a stray cat. Stray cats are cats that simply do not have homes. Stray cats are usually moderately comfortable around humans and have most likely been dumped by their previous owners. This situation unfortunately is very common. Some people in this world get bored with their pets and simply dump them on the side of the street, leaving them intact, unvaccinated, and without a home. These cats are almost completely tame after a small time period. This is just completely devastating. If you ever feel that you would like to get rid of your pet please try to get him or her to a shelter where they will be cared for until adopted again. If you ever find stray cats and kittens of course, please try to trap them and hopefully get them into a home where they belong. If you find a feral cat that is whatsoever not interested in being near a human. In this situation using the TNR program is perfect. There are also many problems with Feral and Stray cats. Unfortunately, if they are vaccinated they can spread diseases to animals like Monk Seals. For those who are endangered and we need to ensure that their survival is possible. By doing so we need to vaccinate the cats around us so that animals like Monk Seals are safe. Cats also kill birds for food. When they donʻt have anyone to feed them, they rely on the resources around them. So unfortunately cats kill the native birds. We need to put an end to this now. Though, none of this is the cats' fault. Cats donʻt just grow on trees and start to produce. Humans created this issue. So that means that it is our job to stop it. There is an estimated 2million stray cats that roam the Hawaiian Islands. With your help, we will be able to eliminate this issue!
This is an organization located in Hawi on the Big Island of Hawaii. This organization is called Cat Snip. Cat Snip will give you free spay\ neuter and vaccination services if you bring the cat up to their facility. Cat Snip is an amazing organization that is helping cats all over the island.
